Q. Is a baptism the same as a christening?
A. Yes, they are just different words for the same thing.

Q. When can we have a baptism?
A. Baptisms at St. Andrew’s normally take place in our Sunday service, because they are a public declaration that your child has become part of the church family. It is important that the church congregation is there to support you and welcome your child. However, if this is an issue for you, please have a chat with the minister.

Q. Can I renew my baptism?
A. You can only be baptised once, but there are ways of renewing your commitment publicly as an adult, and the minister is happy to talk to you about re-naming and re-commitment ceremonies.

Q. I don’t go to church, can I still have my child baptised?
A. Yes. God’s love is available to all, regardless of their background. Q. What does it cost?
A. There is no charge for a baptism, but donations to the church are always welcome.

Q. What is a godparent?
A. Godparents promise to pray and support the child and to help the parents to bring up the child in the Christian faith. It is an important and responsible role.

Q. How many godparents am I allowed to have?
A. There is no ideal number, usually two to four but it is up to you.
